i just begun installing gentoo - but after installing kernel 2.4.19r7 on my ibook2 (128MB RAM, 192MB swap) emerge gnome resulted in erratic swapping and thrashing of the hd. some things got emerged but then after a while all stopped. reboot seemed to help until, some time later the thrashing began again. I installed the install-cd kernel (2.4.19r6) and all is fine - x is compiling like a charm.
Is it a kernel related problem or have i just configured it wrong? |

This is a known kernel related problem, and the main reason why it is still masked, it has memory problems (from benh's tree), as in it doesn't release memory.
2.4.19-r6 is the reccomended release at this point until further notice. |
