Hay, I'm trying to install lirc, but without succes.
I'm using kernel gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.5-r1, and have enabled infrared controllers, and the i2c infrared driver.
I've installed this kernel without any problems.
Then I've emerged lirc. It says you have to patch the kernel if you're using a 2.6 kernel, but the gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.5-r1 are already patched (otherwise I couldn't select infrared controllers, like with gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.7).
Now I don't know what I have to do.
I can't launch irw, it says connection refused.
In /dev I have: lircd and lircm.
I've tried te start lircd, it didn't give any problems, but I can't use irw or irrecord.
I've tried searching the forums but didn't find an answer. The documentation on lirc.org didn't help either.
Hope someone can help me.

/dev/lirc/lirc0 should also exist. If it doesn't then you must load modules lirc_dev and lirc_i2c. then you must edit /etc/conf.d/lircd and make sure there is a line that contains "-d /dev/lirc/lirc0". to debug you can run lircd --nodaemon -d /dev/lirc/lirc0 and then run irw from a second terminal. if it works, then just do rc-update add lircd default

Tnx for your information, but the problem is /dev/lirc doesn't exists, not even when I load the modules (using modprobe).
I've followed the lirc documentation (on http://www.lirc.org/html/install.html#installing).
They said to add a line to /etc/modules.conf:
Code:

alias char-major-61  lirc_i2c

But this also didn't solve the problem :(
I can't even run lircd --nodaemon -d /dev/lirc/lirc0 because that lirc0 doesn't exists.

http://wopr.yi.org/mythtv.html

Follow the link above. It is a howto for mythtv however you might be able to pull info from that on getting lirc to run.

I'm currently using lirc on the gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.5-r1 kernel on a mythtv box.

I've already followed that guide, without succes :(
However, I won't continue my mythtv box, because the scart on my tv is broken: I only see mythtv in black and white and without sounds.
