I was following the Gentoo Security Guide trying to restrict logins through the shadow package, as described though /etc/login.access. I uncommented the line -
-:ALL EXCEPT wheel sync:console
Took my account out of the wheel group but still I can log into console. In the process of trying to figure this out I also discovered a similar file in /etc/security called access.conf. I tried adding the same line to access.conf as I had in login.access but still I can log into console.
I'm confused here by the seemingly redundant config files. Also why are login.access and access.conf being ignored on my system?
Thanks,

What is it you are trying to do? Limit console login access to root/wheel only? _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

I'm trying to verify that I can limit logins as described in the Gentoo Security Guide. The line -
-:ALL EXCEPT wheel sync:console
should limit console logins to root/wheel/sync. I'm not worried at this point about what is limited but if the "system" is working at all. Limiting regular users who aren't in the wheel group is just a way for me to test atm.
Thanks,
