I using a Linksys Router/switch with a DSL modem and my gentoo box is the DMZ host, while the other hosts are DHCP.

dmesg shows:

eth0: RealTek RTL8139 Fast Ethernet at 0xc6804000, 00:50:bf:93:b0:27, IRQ 11
eth0: Identified 8139 chip type 'RTL-8139C'
eth0: Setting half-duplex based on auto-negotiated partner ability 0000.

ifconfig shows that eth0 is UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST. I can ping my address with success (ping 192.168.1.5).

route tables show:

Destination Gateway Genmask Iface
192.168.1.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 eth0
0.0.0.0 192.168.1.1 0.0.0.0 eth0

The gateway, which is my Linksys router is 192.168.1.1 so everything looks ok here..

So why can't I ping my router...ping 192.168.1.1 returns 100% packet loss. Basically no connection. I have another computer running that has full connection and I tried configuring that computer as the DMZ host with a static IP and it worked fine. What can I do?

When I installed Gentoo I used DHCP to configure my network...hope that is not an issue as I want static config now. I have configured /etc/conf.d/net and run /etc/init.d/net.eth0 (stop|start) to test. Help!

can you connect to 192.168.1.1 thru "http" to do some admin on your browser ?

Sometimes ICMP it just dropped so that outside cannot tell if the router is up or not.
