ut2003 deathmatch

this is ut2003_demo from the latest gentoo cd.
mandrake 9, GEforce II MX, cable connection.
when trying to play deathmatch, and the game finds a LOT of servers (more then 300) it starts pinging them, and arround the 100th server the games crushes. if there are fewer servers (less then 200) everything works. its also not happening in other game modes (which has fewer servers listed)
did anyone see this before ?
