I am trying to build a Gentoo 2004.1 system on a SPARCstation 5, I have got as far as bootstrapping the stage 1 tar balls, but the compiler fails with errors.
The last couple of lines lines from the bootstrap are as follows:
collect2: Id terminated with signal 11 [Segmentation fault]
make[4]: *** [libstdc++.la] Error 1
make[4]: Leaving directory '/var/tmp/portage/gcc-3.3.3/work/build/sparc-unkown-linux-gnu/libstdc++-v3/src'
make[3]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[3]: Leaving directory '/var/tmp/portage/gcc-3.3.3/work/build/sparc-unkown-linux-gnu/libstdc++-v3'
make[2]: *** [all-recursive-am] Error 2
make[2]: Leaving directory '/var/tmp/portage/gcc-3.3.3/work/build/sparc-unkown-linux-gnu/libstdc++-v3'
make[1]: *** [all-target-libstdc++-v3] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory '/var/tmp/portage/gcc-3.3.3/work/build'
make: *** [bootstrape-lean] Error 2
!!! ERROR: sys-devel/gcc-3.3.3 failed.
!!! Function src_compile, Line 472, Exitcode 2
!!! (no error message)
Does any one have any idea's? |

What are the lines right before those?
Also how much physical memory and swap space do you have in the box? |

hi, i am also doing a stage 1 install on a sparcstation 5 (i have 170MB memory in there, and two 1GB hard drives).
I am currently on stage 2, so i guess the bootstrap is ok on my machine,
i used mcpu=v8 -O2 -pipe in make.conf when i compiled, as i read this is suitable for SS5 (i dont know if this will help for you)
if you require any other info please let me know. I have found that the install is not always very smooth, and sometimes requires a number of reboots and stop + A's (i think more due to it being old hardware than anything in my case) |

The lines before are: -
-lgcc_s -lc -lgcc_s -lm -lgcc_s -lc -lgcc_s /var/tmp/portagegcc-3.3.3/work/build/gcc/crtendS.0 /usr/lib/gcc-lib/sparc-uknown-linux-gnu/3.3.3/../../../crtn.o -Wl,-01 -Wl,--version-script=libstdc++symbol.ver -Wl,-soname -Wl,libstdc++.so.5 -o .libs/libstdc++.so.5.0.5
and I have 256Mb physical memory and 500Mb of swap. |
