Hi!
Due to various dependencies, I have both versions 1.3 and 2.1.2 of FreeType installed on my system, and this seems to produce some problems when trying to install some other packages - avifile, for instance. (FWIW, the 1.3 install is the more recent one, but it looks like version 2 is the only one that tries to use a config script to inform other s/w that it's there.) If the package depends on the Xft.h file but picks up the 1.3 version of freeetype.h, there will be various things that won't be defined, like FT_Library, that will clobber the compiles. It looks like adding a "freetype-config --cflags" type of section to the configure script(s) would fix my problem, but I'm not that comfortable with autoconf and such to try to do it myself, so I guess I'm reporting this as a bug. Any takers?
James

Ah, looking around in the bug list, I see that #s 5305 and 10373 are likely the same problem - I've got Xft 2.0 installed, and apparently it's an incompatibility problem w/ FreeType version 1; so perhaps some consistency-checking would be in order here... There's probably a way to set up a configure script to do it, but I'm sure not the hamfist to try it!
