2.4.26 kernel compilation errors

I'm installing gentoo on a Sun Blade 100. I'm having a bit of a problem. It seems that the first two or three characters in some source files of the kernel are corrupt l. For example, instead of a "/*" I'd get a "^0@4!!". As you can imagine, this is a real pain in the ass!

After editing about 30 source files between makes, I finally got the kernel to compile and finished the install. But now, while booting into my new gentoo system I get an error saying that my root partition isn't bootable. However, upon a second boot I get into the system fine.

On top of this, the keyboard map is crazy! I am using "sunkeymap" as my mapping and have the keymap daemon running on boot. This is the same mapping used on the installation 2004.1 cd and it works fine there but not on my new system.

Hmmm..perhaps you should try re-emerge'ing the kernel sources?

thanks for the advice but it did not help. I was also thinking that bzip was borked but re-emerging it did not help either. It's too bad a coworker installed debian on it while I was home, I would have liked to have fixed the problem.

Anyway, thanks for the help!

It sounds like an odd error, but if you had DMA enabled on the drive, it's possible it may have corrupted files on the hard drive. The IDE controller in the Blade 100/150 isn't the greatest
