|
|
Hi there,
I've completed a working install of Gentoo 1.4 for which I am pretty happy. But now I have some trouble setting up Gnome. Everything seems to have emerged succesfully. I've followed the desktop configuration-guide and got x working fine. But when I start gdm, i get a blue screen with the message
Code: | Server Authorization directory (daemon/ServAuthDir) is set to /var/lib/gdm but is not owned by user gdm and group gdm . Please correct the ownership or gdm configuration /etc/X11/gdm.conf and restart gdm |
Gdm does not start.
Offcourse I checked the owner of /var/lib/gdm, but that appears to be fine (it is gdm). When I checked the contents of that folder, I found that there is nothing in it. I also checked the configuration file, but found nothing strange. I couldn't find anything similar in this forum.
I find it a bit strange that there is no files in /var/lib/gdm, but I don't know what causes this or if it is just normal. Can somebody please tell me where I should start troubleshouting this problem? Thanx

Fixed it myself!
There were files in /var/lib/gdm, but they are hidden. And when I did a chgrp in addition to a chown on the folder, Gnome loads succesfully!
Statement: My linux skills still need some boosting....
