Do I need to do some patching to the vanilla kernel to use alsa?
i.e. Do I have to do some stuff NOT in the desktop guide if I used the
vanilla kernel, or will the emerge .... alsa-driver take care of it? |

The kernel sources you use won't make a difference. |

I did a make mrproper, rebuilt everything, and now alsa seems to be
running without errors, core-dumps, or missing devices.
However, I get no sound.
When I reboot, the sound I normally get at startup (from the bios) is also gone.
So I think that its the mixer thats messed up.
Its just not un-muting or turning up sound.
Any idea what to do about this?
I have the YMF-744B in an old Vaio laptop.
I ran alsamxer, unmuted everything, and turned everything up... still no sound. |
