Hello,

I'm two updates behind on coreutils on my Sparc20. See below:

[ebuild U ] sys-apps/coreutils-5.2.0-r2 [5.0.91-r4]

There is/was some sort of compilation problem. What is the fix for this? I'm a real gentoo newbie, having migrated here from RedHat, and haven't mastered the tweaking of ebuild files as yet.

So any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Darren

Don't use an SMP kernel whilst you compile it. Seems to work that way.

Hi,

Like -j 1, or reboot on a non-smp kernel?

Thanks!

Hey Guys,

I'm going to do the non-smp kernel thing, to get Coreutils updated. But wouldn't it make more sense to fix what the problem is?

It's a very time consuming process to recompile a kernel on a Sparc20.

It's disruptive to service to reboot.

I loose half of my capacity while up on the UMP kernel.

The server is remote, and rebooting remote servers onto differing kernels is a less than optimal plan.

Does anyone else have this problem? Do you have the same concerns that I do?

Darren

The problem seems to be related to the libsandbox that portage uses to keep packages from making changes to the current live filesystem during compilation and install. Bug #46593 is following this.

Cia,

Your comment implies a couple of particularly unsavory things:
1. Gentoo is only for kernel developers.
2. You have little respect for others.

If you don't have anything productive to offer, kindly refrain from posting. It is developers like you who treat non-kernel developers poorly, that will hurt the otherwise great body of work that is Gentoo Linux.

Have a great weekend.

??? If we had a few people who were paid to work full time on fixing this kind of thing, we'd get it fixed. Since we don't, we're relying upon contributions from anyone who has either the skills and the time required themselves or the resources to hire someone else who has. Surprisingly enough, we don't leave bugs lying around unfixed just because we like annoying people.
