|
|
i just did a reinstall. i did yabootconfig and gave an error .... --chroot option?
so i editted yaboot.conf manually (used a previous install file) and did mkofboot and worked.
then i rebooted and got the boot menu fine. selected linux and didnt get paste the first screen, no penguin. then i did a hard reset to try os x and got nothing (circle with line through). then i tried linux again. it reboots after a few seconds.
then i did open firm ware boot menu. that took a while to load. then i got linux, osx, osx, cd
there is only one osx installed. one works and the other gives the circle with line. and linux gives the boot menu.
is this a kernel issue or yaboot issue?
here is the partition info:

maybe yaboot points to the wrong osx and thats why it fails? and bad linux kernel?
or bad yaboot?

Sounds like a yaboot error? I think there is a better program for autoconfiguration of yaboot. Wow you have lots of partitions. _________________ ubi primum potero, me hinc subduco. |

you can run it outside of chroot when booted from live cd like:
yabootconfig --chroot /mnt/gentoo
should work fine like that |

i tried again. i repartitioned and reinstalled.
i found that all of those partitions were for os 9 drivers. i removed os 9 so now i have
hda1 partition map
hda2 bootstrap
hda3 swap
hda4 root
hda5 osx
i got yabootconfig to work like above. it loads osx now but still fails with linux. seems like yaboot loads fine but dosnt load the kernel, just stops.
i get the first screen before the kernel and peguin load. like the cd. bright white text then gey and penguin. |

i got it to boot. i had multitple problems. resier, ext3, bad yaboot....all combinations
i dont have the display in the kernel. i blindly logged in and made a test file and saved it and rebooted, the test file was there after the live cd boot and chroot. i think i have my problem fixed, execpt for the display but done that before. i should be able to get it now |
