My Gnome2 panel (the top panel, the one that comes with it default) disappeared for some odd reason. How do I get it back? I can't seem to find any option to create new panels unless you already have a panel to right click on... any ideas? _________________ McManus

I assume you can get a terminal of some sort up - do so and try running gnome-panel-2 from that. With any luck if you muck about with it a little you can get it to stick into your GNOME session again. _________________ Your Gentoo woll sle me sodenly!

actually, I was a bit incorrect in my description of the problem. i do have a gnome-panel running (it's a sliding one on the bottom of the screen), however, in "help" it says that if I want to do anything with the panel, I need to right click on some empty space... but there is no empty space to right click on!
(since it is a sliding panel, it automatically sizes itself to however many icons you have, so if you delete an icon, the empty space that would have been there disappears and the panel is smaller, so there's never any empty space. and since I deleted the hide buttons on the ends, I'm pretty much screwed. IMO this is a pretty bad design... at least let there be a keyboard shortcut or something ) _________________ McManus

Remove all your icons, and then create a new panel, its called a menu panel.
Yes its a pain, but I think that might be the only way to get it back. |

Yeah, that's what I ended up doing. And this time I added the hide buttons back on. Seems to be a rather big flaw in design to not leave any blank space for you to click on... _________________ McManus

Yeah - it's hopefully being worked on for 2.2 - it was one of the first major problems reported with 2.0 _________________ Mark Finlay - Gnome Hacker of Sorts

One thing you can also do, which is also a pain, is to open up gconf-editor, find the panel entry. And check the "hide buttons" box. Then "killall gnome-panel; gnome-panel" to restart. And your hide buttons are back. |
