So you know how WinXP lets you suspend a user's session with all programs still running and allow another user to login? I would REALLY like to be able to do that in Linux...
Is it possible? |

Well, one quick way to get a new login prompt is to use <ctrl>+<alt>+<function key> (e.g. <ctrl>+<alt>+<F1>). This will switch you to one of several text consoles that will allow you to login (there are 6 of them by default). From here, you could type "startx -- :1" to get a new instance of your preferred desktop running. (Replace the 1 with higher numbers for each additional desktop instance you start up.) To get back to your original desktop, press <ctrl>+<alt>+<F7>. The new desktop you created will be available at <ctrl>+<alt>+<F8>. (Replace the 8 with higher numbers for each other desktop you have running - although I don't know what happens past 9 because I've never tried more than that).
If you'd like multiple graphical logins (as provided by xdm, gdm, or kdm), I can't give a real good answer. I use Gnome 2 and gdm, but I've never really tried to use gdm to log in multiple times. I know there's an option on the Gnome 2 Applications menu, under System Tools, that creates a New Login, which launches a new instance of gdm that you could log in at. As for kdm, I have no clue; maybe somebody more familiar with KDE will be able to help out there. |

Heya...
I have been keeping up on the KDE lists and it looks like this is an option that is currently "in the works". Currently it is not available, but the groundwork is being laid out...
So I would expect this to be in KDE 3.2 maybe...
