|

I recently aquired a sparcstation 20. I really want to put gentoo on it. But I saw there were only bootable iso's for the 64bit chips. No big deal, I will find some other cd that I can boot to and then fetch stage one over the internet and install. Well, I can't find any bootable cd's taht will give me a command line. I found a debian cd and it is installing now. Is there any bootable media that I could use to accomplish what I'm trying to do? Keep in mind, this is my first encounter with a sparc, so I know practically nothing abut it. _________________ -Josh |

Check in the experimental section in the mirrors, there's an experimental 2005.0 beta testing no support livecd.
It should kinda work on ss20, unless you have hypersparc, YMMV. _________________ Gustavo Zacarias

Thanks man. It appears to be a SuperSparc II. I'll try that out. I do have another question though: I did get debian to install. However, at install time it showed there was a Seagate 2.1G SCSI drive. dmesg also reports this. But when I tried to partition it, the most I can get out of it is about 200M. Is there some sparc taboo knowledge I'm missing here? I've only tried to use fdisk. _________________ -Josh |

fdisk auto partitiong isn't too good sometimes, try looking up the disk parameters and entering the values by hand when doing the sun disklabel. _________________ Gustavo Zacarias
