My solution was to use Ogle instead of Gxine...

Of course, that may not work if your goal is not to watch DVDs.

Did anyone find a fix to this? am having the same problem too

**Fixed**
Downloaded the source from xine's site and compiled it manually, worked fine! guessing something is bork'ed on both ebuilds of gxine.
