I have no evidence either way but what makes you think that?

Although there is no release date on the website, I'm sure that this version has been out for a year or more...

can someone write an init.d script for Skippy, i love the program but it would be handy if i could start it at boot

In freedesktop compliant desktops, you can start skippy this way:
Code:

$ ln -s /usr/bin/skippy $HOME/Desktop/Autostart/skippy

Hah, I was actually going to post about this tonight after discovering it in Linux Magazine (UK). Just as well I did a search first. It works great with XFCE4.2 SVN:

I have a problem with maximized windows and gnome. The windows paint over the top & bottom panel of gnome. Is there a way to prevent this?

I'm using xorg-6.8.2-r7 and fluxbox-0.9.14-r1, both are the latest stable from portage. I've just tried skippy and skippy-xd (I've enabled composite just for testing it).

First, composite enabled will make semi-transparent menus and window decorations not work anymore in fluxbox. aterm is still semi-transparent, though. (bug in fluxbox, not related to skippy)

Well, using it I noticed sometimes it won't start or fail when pressing the shortcut (some X error message printed to terminal). I'm not sure if I can reproduce it.

skippy works (most of the time; a few times I clicked on thumbnail and it did not raise the window). It is slow to display everythign, but this happens because of X limitations. And since it is as slow as raising all windows, I see no "improvement", when compared to cycling them using alt+tab.

skippy-xd works too, but is very slow/cpu intensive. Maybe again X limitations.

The live-update is not perfect. "xeyes" thumbnail was a bit garbled (but at least was transparent, when compared with skippy without composite). mplayer -vo xv was displayed as a blue screen, and mplayer -vo x11 had a thumbnail, but it was not updated. Again, I guess there are bugs or limitations in X, but I don't discard bugs in skippy.

skippy (both versions) don't support multiple workspaces. At least on this fluxbox, skippy tends to open itself at same workspace as last time, but if this workspace is not visible, it will fail.

The thumbnail arrangement, although not perfect (or "best"), was nice and well done.

I think skippy is not really useful now, but can be used as base for something better, more complete. In addition, much work must be done into X, to remove many limitations and improve performance.

Is there any way in which this could be improved? As it is, it is I agree that it is really too slow to be of practical use unless you have _heaps_ of open programs.

But, when you have tons of programs/windows opened, the program will raise all of them, one-by-one.

I think XGL is a good solution to this. With XGL, getting a copy of window "image" is fairly easy (I saw some experimental XGL video long time ago that had workspace mini-icons displayed as real "screenshot" of the real window, and updated live).

I guess skippy could be ported to XGL, but most of its code will need to be rewritten.

I don't use XGL (yet) and I don't know if there is any program that does that.

That error occurs when you already have an instance of Skippy running.

I got problems running skippy with fvwm. The thumbnails are all black. On the skippy website there is something told about layers; if the windows are below _layers_, then the thumbnails may not be working. Anybody got a working configuration for fvwm?
