and i dont know what it is...
I have metacity 2.4.0 installed.
i just did a "emerge rsync"
emerge -up world shows me that nothing is new...
BUT if i do a "emerge metacity" portage will upgrade metacity to 2.4.1!
why does not that show when doing a "emerge -up world"? _________________ Best regards

What version of Portage? I don't have metacity installed, but "emerge -p metacity" and "emerge -up metacity" both claim they would install 2.4.1, with emerge -V saying 2.0.37. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |

Code: |
funshine root # emerge -V
Portage 2.0.38
funshine root # emerge -up world
These are the packages that I would merge, in order.
Calculating world dependencies ...done!
[ebuild U ] sys-devel/perl-5.6.1-r7
funshine root # emerge -p metacity
These are the packages that I would merge, in order.
Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild U ] x11-wm/metacity-2.4.1

How did you install metacity ?
Was it automatically installed as a dependency of Gnome ?
I may be wrong, but I think portage keeps a list of the packages you emerged explicitely, and only checks those when you do update world. ( After looking at the doc, the list shoud be in ' /var/cache/edb/world ', and http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/portage-manual.xml should help, more precisely the World Update section. |

xr31Daisy's suggestion was my first thought as well, which is why I asked for the Portage version. With 2.0.38, though, deep dependencies should be the default, and so I wonder if emerge world not updating _all_ new available packages might be relevant? _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |
