I'm trying to get my printer working again, and CUPS gives me this:
Code:
E [06/May/2004:15:27:03 -0600] Unable to convert file 0 to printable format for job 4!
I [06/May/2004:15:27:03 -0600] Hint: Do you have ESP Ghostscript installed?
Yes. Yes I do. So what's the problem?

I accidently forgot USE="cups" in my make.conf. After enabling cups and reemerging kdelibs and ghostscript I got the very same error.

Reemerging cups solved the problem for me.

Hi! Sorry I took so long to get back to this thread, I had to send in the printer for repair.

I re-emerged ghostscript and cups with USE="CUPS" in make.conf and now it's printing. Not sure it's working RIGHT, but it's doing SOMETHING. As long as cups is cooperating with me instead of printing nothing and pretending everything's OK, I should be able to do something.

Thanks!

OK... now it's doing something really bizzare. It prints pure black pages, and absolutely nothing else. wtf?

Resolved! Lesson for the day: foomatic stinks, and whoever says otherwise obviously doesn't own an epson cx3200.

How I fixed it was thus:

In make.conf:
Code:
USE="cups ppds foomaticdb"

From shell:
Code:
emerge --ask foomatic-db foomatic-db-engine foomatic-filters gimp-print ghostscript cups

Then, don't use foomatic. Repeat, don't use foomatic. Add your printer the standard way from http://localhost:631
