I'm new to Gentoo here, but finally got it installed!!!
Anyways, I've tried to emerge some stuff recently, but it says "You are not in the portage group. Blah, blah, blah.....".
What does this mean and how do I fix it?
Thanks,
Steve |

Probably a stupid/easy question, but thanks....I'll do that.
Hey, since we're on the subject. No matter what, do I always install EVERYTHING by emerging it as root? |

You can install things plenty of other ways -- from source with a provided Makefile, with an RPM, etc. But, if there's an ebuild for it in Portage, you can bet that's probably the simplest/best way to go. But yeah, if you're using emerge, either be root or use sudo. (Some people will recommend sudo, but I find I need to do enough miscellaneous things when emerging that root is justified. Maybe.) _________________ a^2 + b^2 = c^2
