Where are all the network car drivers???

I tried to install the latest UT / Gentoo 1.4-beta CD on my Dad's computer and it (install CD) didn't have AMD PCNet32 drivers.
OK.
So I put the disc in mine and found it didn't have ne2k-pci drivers. Now that is a little strange. I thought the ne2k cards were very common.
So then I found a 3Com card.
Guess what?
No drivers.
So where are they all?
And how can I emerge the source to the 2.4.19-r1 kernel so I can build myself some drivers since I have run an emerge --clean and the ebuild for that kernel is no longer there?

Can you use a 1.2 ISO and a 1.4rc1 tarball like rojaro describes in this post?
