ok first, big handicap cause I cant "emerge" most things cause my internet connection is pppoE aka DSL :x , and cant seem to get dsl to work cause you need ppp first, and dhcp dont work.

So im chuggin along in the install, figured out that the 1st 2nd and 3rd stage install dont have kernel sources? is that correct?
anyway I downloaded those from Kernel.org from windows and burned on a CD.

took me a while to figure out that CDROM's are hdc instead of acd or hcd hehe. now i have the system installed with GRUB and dual-boots windows. and mounts my fat hard disks. some things are wrong though.

- How can i manually get portage and all the packages, put on CD and install?

- I get an error on boot time that says that I need DEVFS compiled into the kernel to work, ( have built Kerel 2.4x straight from kerel.org, and been through all the make config menues and dont see anything about DEVFS, what is it and does it go by another name? Note system still boots , mounts everyting fine and can rebuild the kernel.

- If i cant get portage , im gonna have to grab XFree86+ a billion packages from the www.whateverthesiteis.org and install it. No X either atm, my /usr/X11R6/bin is empty except for Xconsole?

For devfs:
While in 'make menuconfig', go to 'Code maturity level options' and make sure that 'Prompt for development and/or incomplete code/drivers' is checked. Then go to 'File systems' and check '/dev file system support', but not 'Automatically mount at boot'.

For download lists:

You can also get "rsync snapshots" from http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo/snapshots/.

Anything else? ;)
