Hi,
i just had a very strange problem with my new printer...
The printer is plugged into my parallel port and it works perfectly under Windows.
dmesg says that the parallel port and the printer is detected. A few lines below parport0 gives an error message:
parport0: no more devices allowed
lp: driver loaded but no devices found
After googling for this very strange behaviour I found out that several configuration entries in the I2C-Section (hardware sensors stuff, also needed for TV cards) grabbed the parport devices before lp could do this.
So if your printer is detected, but no device node is created, check your kernel config and remove the I2C-Entries that operate via the parallel port. Of course, assure that you have actived parallel port support, pc style parallel port support and parallel printer support!
cheers,
