Currently both links have been going to drobbins. In the very near future, the link on the gentoo home page will point to gentoo's account and the one at the store will point to drobbins.

There is a picture; not as detailed as we're used to, but more than enough to tell you what you're gonna get.
However, it does say they don't have any in stock yet, so maybe photos will appear once they are. |

Finally found someone with a credit card. Donated 10$.
I just cant effort more right now needing the rest to support my life as a student.
A big thanks to Daniel Robbins.
Daniel, I think you really started a great distro - One of the reasons gentoo is so great is because of some basic choices, that I think you made. Like the decision not to offer a installer, because it wasnt possible to make a installer that doesnt suck. This might change now as the requirement become more clear, but the policy of "dont automate something that you cant automate - offer good docs instead" was the right decision and yielded the great success of gentoo and a fabulous user community. In gentoo things dont get finished "when its done", but they get started "when its doable". Others too often skipped to think about this step and failed.
gentoo is already great and still grows steadily and unstoppable ... _________________ etc-proposals, your friendly config file updater!

Ya know what is it with the name "Salvation Army"?
Does it automatically imply religion?
Apparently over the years I have missed this key concept...
So if you're religious about Gentoo, does that make you also a nut?
You can be religious about anything you know...
Bah! Useless dribble...

Since everyone in this thread seems to be commenting on the Salvation Army without actually knowing much about it, I thought I'd look up some facts:
The Salvation Army:
| Code: | # Has more than 800 hostel catering for nearly 40,000 people throughout the year.
# Over 300 retraining centres.
# More than 2,000 food distribution centres, with additional emergency feeding programmes set up when and where needed.
# More than 700 eventide and elderly people homes.
# Nearly 300 hospitals and clinics.
# 202 children's homes
# 481 day nurseries and crèches
# 5 holiday homes
# 66 fresh-air camps
# 1,505 primary and secondary schools
# 32 domestic science and trade schools.
# 370 occupational and industrial centres for retraining and work experience
# Over 130 drug and alcohol rehabilitation programmes
# 7 institutes provide a home and training for the blind
# Over 30 purpose-built homes for the physically handicapped
# Over 400 canteens, mobile units and hostels cater for the needs of people who serve in the armed forces.
# More than 10,000 missing relatives were traced through The Salvation Army's Missing Person's services
# Nearly 500,000 prisoners were visited and given help on discharge.
# Over 30 homes accommodate almost 900 young offenders.
# The Salvation Army's night patrols, rescue and anti-suicide missions helped around about 200,000 people last year alone.
# Nearly 300,000 people received counselling from Salvation Army personnel last year.
# 75 residences are provided for students and business people who need accommodation. |

I ordered one universal cd, 1 t-shirt and donated 29$ along with it bringing the total to $50 from me.
That's about $3200 total. Let's see if we can get it up some more _________________ Pentium 4 Prescott 3,2 GHz

Goodbye drobbins! Thanks for the wonderful gift of linux. I've learned so very much from Gentoo and it's community and none of it would have been possible without your vision and hard work. Best wishes in your next endeavour. _________________ An Evil Genious' Guide to Sheeple and How To Avoid Becoming One | 0x4C9EF4A |

Well since people are running totals on this thread..
I had $20 in my paypal account.. bought a T-Shirt and donated $5 (T-Shirt plus S&H is 14.xx)
It know it's not a lot but... if even a small percentage of the gentoo community donated as much as I did then robbins would be way out of debt

I can't say I have been too active in the Gentoo community (I did translate some documentation to norwegian though...). Eventhough I use Debian and FreeBSD on my computers today I will definitly go back to Gentoo next time I buy myself a computer. After all...Gentoo was the reason I started to love GNU/Linux.
So I consider it just fair that I help out with a donation of $25, + preorder of tshirt, + a 2004.1 CD.
I hope everything will work out with your current financial issues Robbins! I do hope the contributions from the users of this forum (and others) helps you a lot (wich I am very sure they are). |

I just got done reading this whole thread. I donated when I got to page 3, and I am now posting my reply now that I have reached the end (page10).
I purchased 2 t-shirts and donated $25.
I started using Linux around the time of Red Hat 5.2. I bought a book that included Slackware 3 or so. I still have both of these Cd's to remember those days. I have burned through many different Linux distros and remember when mandrake was Red Hat + some extra cool shit. I remember when gnome was started in opposition to KDE using a then closed source QT. I remember upgrading to Xfree 4.0 the day it was released. I remember the race for the first journeled file system. I also remember reading about gentoo when it was thought of as a developers distro. I have been a happy user of gentoo now for several years, and I will continue to keep it as my desktop and server of choice until the inevitable day that something better comes along.
Cheers Daniel
