|
hi all,
i try to install 1.4rc1 under vmware (windows host)
for some reason there's no pcnet32 module on the iso image, what could be the easiest solution?
why isn't module pcnet32 included with the 1.4rc1 distribution as it used to be in 1.2?
ps: i only have a dial-up and currently no other linux installation
thanks |

I really dont think you would want to install gentoo over a dial up connection. It would take way too long. |

Installing over a dialup could be a bit painful if you are going for gnome or kde.

well guys, we don't get unlimited dsl for $40 here:) i doubt if i could get even unlimited dial-up for this amount:(( another option would be paying $0.06 per MB:((

As far as the nic driver, it is built into the kernel on the 1.4rc_1 cd. Just run '/etc/init.d/net.eth0 start' and you should be set.

are you sure abouth the nic driver? ls on the directory mentioned in the installation manual doesn't show the kernel module for pcnet32 which is what vmware emulates
again, i had no problem with 1.2
thanks for the second link, it might help me activating sound |
