|
|
I have Intel 845 GLAD motherboard. It has got an onboard graphics card,
Intel Extreme Graphics. I could not configure my X. Infact I don't know which driver to select from the list. It seems that none of them match the
card I have. While, according to the Intel people they have provided it's driver to the xfree86..
can anyone help me out. I am using Gentoo Linux with KDE 3.0.3
thanks in advance,

I found this page at Intel. Is that relevant to your system? Also, the Support page at xfree86.org has a link "Intel 830/845G Driver". That link contains this: "Reworking the Intel 830 and 845G driver support". Does that help any? _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

I have similar problem with an ABIT BG7 Motherbord and 845G onboard graphic chip. "XFree86 -configure" gives me:
"Fatal server error:
XFree86 has found a valid card configuration.
Unfortunately the appropriate data has not been added to xf86PciInfo.h.
Please forward 'scanpci -v' output to XFree86 support team.

In short this page say additional work on 830/845G drivers have been comited to cvs and support for 830/845G will be included from XFree 4.3 but no idea of how far away that release is. So the only way for us to get X server running now seam to be go out and buy a supported card. _________________ /Joakim

Have you tried building the CVS version of Xfree? I never have, so I have no idea how stable it is, but you might try it before you go out and buy a new card. See http://www.xfree86.org/cvs/ for the info. |

Also, I thought I read in one of the links I posted that 'vesa' may work. It does... the first link in my post. Quote: | If your version of Linux* does not support the Intel 845G/GL chipset, the VESA driver that comes with XFree86* can be used. To use the VESA driver, modify the XF86Config-4 file and change the driver line to:
Driver "vesa" |
*shrug* may not do much, but its there. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

No, I have not tried to build the cvs version, it's to much fuzz for me as I know to little about how to integrate it with an ebuild... The onboard graphic isn't so impressive anyway so I have ordered a Geoforce4 card. _________________ /Joakim
