You should NEVER work in X as root ! Actually, should never work as root unless you need to configure/install/delete/.. something and you don't have the rights to do it as a normal user. And if you need to be root just use |

garo is absolutely right! never ever run X as root at all - it's just TOO dangerous, especially if your machine is connected to the internet!!!! _________________ A mathematician is a machine for turning coffee into theorems. ~ Alfred Renyi (*1921 - †1970) |

Just login to X as a normal user and open a console and "su" yourself to root there, now you are root and have music at the same time.

well, most X users dont know much about it's technical background and how exactly X works and even more users just dont care about these things but are the loudest when complaining afterwards when something bad happens ... and in this particular case i could not resist to underline your statement as it was absolutely correct :)
not knowing about a thing doesnt mean it cant harm you ... someone should tell that microsoft with their idiotic "security through obscurity"-tactics too ... :) _________________ A mathematician is a machine for turning coffee into theorems. ~ Alfred Renyi (*1921 - †1970) |
