|
|
Hello, I have recently updated to GCC3.2, but have a need for 2.95.3 now. Unfortunately, the last GCC I had installed was 3.1.1, so I now have 3.1.1 and 3.2 installed..
Is there a way (easy or not..) to uninstall 3.1 and install 2.95.3 in its place? I don't care which is the default compiler; although, for my purposes, it would be nice to keep 2.95.3 as the default.
Any help is greatly appreciated.. |

Not really.. I need to know the "gentoo way" of doing it. Unless you're suggesting I should simply build GCC 2.95.3 on my own...?
I thought there is an "official" way to have both installed? But I cannot find a way to downgrade GCC3.1 to 2.95.3.... |

*eek* Be very careful!!!
Don't just emerge GCC 2.95 - it will overwrite your 3.2 and your system will probably become unusable. The GCC 2.95 ebuild does not know how to install itself as a secondary compiler - the 3.x ebuilds do.
I am not aware of a Gentoo way of installing 2.95 as a secondary compiler. The other way around (2.95 primary, 3.x secondary) is somewhat supported. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |

Crap. Well, this is my development box at work.. I really need GCC 2.95.3.. in fact, I could live without 3.2 if I can't have both. I am now running Gentoo 1.4, so is there a way to ditch GCC 3.2 and install 2.95.3 instead?? |
