I don't have a german keyboard (a US one) but when I first installed Gentoo my key layout was completely bogus. The problem was I configured the keyboard as us and it should have been mac-us. After changing this everything was ok.
Could you have the same problem ?
Have a look in /usr/share/keymaps/ppc/all

I'd like to see someone some examples of the keymap line for several different languages. It's not really clear what format it is supposed to be in.
"us"
"mac-us"
"/usr/share/keymaps/mac/mac-us.map.gz"
Which one? I've tried the last two, which thoroughly screwed up my keyboard, but it would have been nice to know that before hand. For foreign users I have no idea.
This should be in the install instructions.

i have a german ibook2 (smallest, 600mhz, cdrom) and it works fine with the us.map.gz - but this, naturally, doesn't fit my keyboard-layout _________________ Linux is a wigwam - no Windows, no Gates, Apache inside |
