Im having some strange problems with a Gentoo 1.2 installation. During installation there were no problems with network connectivity. After the installation, i.e. when booting up the system, theres no connectivity at all. I can ping the local interface without problems, but any traffic to the rest of the network wont work.
The eth0 service starts fine.
Ive tried different network cards (3c905c, 3c980 and rtl8139) and to compile the driver in the kernel as well as run it as a module.
I use the same driver which was used during the install (ran lsmod to see which module was used).
The RX and TX packet counters show 0 packets. /proc/interrupts shows no interrupts for the nic.
Link is established between the nic and the hub.
The network IP configuration and the route table are OK.
The nic wont grab a dhcp address (timeout error), but a manual configuration works (i.e. eth0 starts and you can ping the local interface)
If I hadnt known better I would suspect a wrongly configured iptables, but thats not the problem as its not even installed. The only suggestion I can think of is perhaps a chip-set related issue (havent checked which drivers have been compiled in the kernel yet came to think of this just now). Other ideas? |

In case it helps you for comparison purposes, the kernel config file for the 1.2 install CD is here. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |
