I need a new HDD. As the 120GB ones seem to have the most GB/$ (~.85) i figure i'll go with one. My question is weather to get one w/ an 8mb buffer and move my gentoo install over to that disk. Would i notice the difference $20 worth? |

I'm not convinced that you would, but then again I have only read reports about this. I almost never hit my swap space and I can only think that a buffer would be really handy in that case. There aren't all that many other things that jump out to me as being a good excuse for a buffered HDD on a personal computer, but to be realistic, what's another 20 bucks? _________________ if i never try anything, i never learn anything..

I bought an 8 MB WD800JB, and it feels great
Will you notice the difference between 8 and 2 MB in real life: guess not.
But hey, if spending 20 Euros makes you feel good, do it. |
