Hello,
when trying to install from livecd (gentoo-alpha-2004.0-20040313) on a alphastation 255/300 I have some problems activating the network card.
It is correctly recognised as
eth0: Digital DC21040 Tulip rev 36 at 0x8400, ..., IRQ 15
When using dhcp or "ifconfig up" the light for the link on my switch wents of and I am not able to reach the network (ping).
With "ifconfig down" the switch shows a link again.
dmesg shows "eth0: no link beat found".
The card works well under Tru64 4.0f.
I know, these chips had some problems with autonegotiation and I tried to set the speed fix in SRM without any luck.
Did anybody experience similar problems?

| You might try modprobe de4x5 instead of tulip |
