i love using Gaim, but sometimes it's just more convenient to be in the console and forget about X for a while... my search for a working console (ncurses based obviously) AIM client has been fruitless though. So far i have tried naim, ntaim, centericq, and caim.

caim segfaults regularly. and it displays the same symptoms as all the others: soon as i log in (i know it logs in cause it kicks me off gaim) i get disconnected from the server. is it AOL changing the protocols again slightly so it won't work?

should i try another server? change the config? the naim site seems to be dead. the centericq build is for 4.8.2, but their site has the latest at 4.8.4. if i knew how to make ebuilds i'd do it... can i just edit the current ebuild to grab that source?

centericq is very nice :) I don't know how to make ebuild either but you can kinda make one by:

1. Download the centericq tar.gz from http://konst.org.ua/eng/software/centericq/download.html
2. place it into your /usr/portage/distfiles
3. cd /usr/portage/net-im/centericq
4. cp centericq-4.8.2.ebuild centericq-4.8.4.ebuild
5. ebuild centericq-4.8.4.ebuild digest
6. emerge centericq

This works perfectly for centericq :)
