guys

You'd think this has been discussed MANY times but I cannot find a single question regarding that:

Is it possible to disable the STOP-A function like you can in Solaris by editing

/etc/default/kbd and setting this :

KEYBOARD_ABORT to "alternate" or "no"

Otherwise my U5 sends a false BRK signal to itself when it senses serial console power loss which renderes the box useless until the serial console is back.

This is quite stupid and unwanted (In fact I cannot think of any reason anyone
would want this..! What were they thinking ?Or is this a hardware bug ?)
Anyways, as far as I can see the only way to turn this off is through Solaris or by buying
a 90$ Non-Aborting Serial Console Adapter to fool the box into believing there is a
continuous serial connection.

Sparc OpenBSD has STOP-A disabled by default and you can turn it on in the kernel
so I'm sure there is something we can do in Gentoo..right ??

Please tell me ONE of you gurus has figured out a way to get around this...

anyone ?

Alex

found the answer :

set
kernel.stop-a = 0
in sysctl.conf

this will disable STOP-A from Gentoo. I guess the box still sends them when serial console power is lost but the kernel now says "F** you" !!

saved myself 90 bucks
