Just wondering if someone's noticed that in the 1.4-rcX gentoo builds the metalog has ceased to log to a console. (yes, the metalog.conf has the latest lines commented out) and yes, if i try echo "hello" > /dev/vc/x i can read the text on the x console.
Anyone with a hint?

Uncomment the lines in metalog.conf so that you have:
console logging :
facility = "*"
command = "/usr/sbin/consolelog.sh"

Those lines are uncommented. |

Well, in your post you said "commented out".
I assume you restarted metalog after changing the config file?

Oops, you're right... sorry, my mistake.
Yes the metalog was restarted [many times  ] |
