Ok i installed wine and halflife (unpatched working on that atm) the game starts up and RUNS! but it errors a couple times on startup, and the resolution gets messed up. It displays correctly, but the window will actually scroll, could be because i have it running at a lower res than the desktop.....
error i get:
Code: |
could not open MCI file for playback: 266: There is an undetectable
problem in loading the specified device driver
|
This error pops up twice.
Things i've done so far:
emerge nvidia-glx
emerge nvidia-kernel
installed nvidia drivers off of their website
edited XF86Config File
emerge opengl
emerge glx
Any ideas? and yes, i am the uber n00b
[edit]
Tried updating half-life, errors out when it tries to copy the .wad files....ARGH |

instead of trying to install half-life you should be trying to install steam which has half-life and all the other valve games (no need to crack it, it downloads the games for free as long as you have a legit cd key).
first follow this guide on how to install and configure winex :
http://www.linux-gamers.net/modules/wfsection/article.php?articleid=26
then follow this guide to install steam :
http://www.linux-gamers.net/modules/wfsection/article.php?articleid=32
once steam is installed you'll be able to automatically install all the valve games through it without any other configuration.
i just followed those instructions and installed it myself without any problems.

Steam barely works under windows, much less wine. I'm not up enough the ins and out of wine to know for sure, but I think that's an audio related error you're getting (or maybe a video intro with audio?). But I don't recommend going to steam, you'll probably only make things worse. |

i can't remember if i ever loaded up oss or not so i'm gonna try redoing that...anyone know why the blank screen? |
