Having done some work not getting my SB live 5.1 digital going ive made up my mind about cooking a new kernel for it.

This is how my /etc/make.conf looks like now (added oss and kmix)
Code:
# These settings were set by the catalyst build script that automatically built this stage
CFLAGS="-O2"
CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu"
USE="-gtk -gnome qt kde dvd alsa oss kmix cdr xface mbox maildir cups"
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}"
GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://gentoo.linux.no/ http://212.219.56.146/sites/www.ibiblio.org/gentoo/ http://mirror.pudas.net/gentoo http://linux.rz.r$
Id like to get all the options right this time before cooking the kernel.
And if someone care for it:
A step by step protocol of how i can do this whole process!!

Other recommendations.... ? Like forget about alsa and go for god ol' OSS only?? Mixers reemerge what pakages... and so on..
Hardware:
Code:
MSI Neo-FIS2R mobo, MSI mx440 nvidia graphics and of course Sound Blaster Live 5.1 Digital (emu10k1)

Cheers //Robert

If you have a 2.6 kernel you should not use OSS.

Use alsa and OSS emulation.

Unmerge anything oss-only, and remerge with alsa.

Then remerge your audio apps to usa alsa.

alsa is the shiznit.

That prolly dones't solve your problem directly, but it got me going with my SB Live Platinum 5.1 no probs after upgrading my kernel (done because of issues trying to get the IR stuff registering).

Moo.
