use variable for freetype

Hi

I saw that there's a use variable "truetype" for true/freetype fonts support. I just compiled my new Gentoo 1.4rc1 system from stage1 with the default standard use settings (I changed nothing). I copied my whole Truetype dir from Win2000 and executed ttmkfdir like described at

How can I figure out if this Truetype fonts work for me now? After a xserver-restart there're many webpages (mozilla 1.1) that look very shitty (very small fonts, unreadable) although Truetype should be working.

Any hints? Thanks!

BTW what's the difference between truetype and freetype?
