ok imnot new to linux,but ive only mainly used fdisk with windows,,
the problem is
i type fdisk /dev/hdc (for some resaon thats my hards, probaly something to do with VMWARE)
i can make one parttiton say 100meg, but then i cant make a second partion say 300meg, it coz it say
value is out of range how o i huse fdisk to find out howmuch space i have etc.. and how tomake them

type m for help once you have started fdisk on a drive and then it will list the commands, p would print out the partition table that exists on the drive. |

yes i know that i actually made partitins, it just does allowme to specify the size it say invlid size. how woul igot about workling out correct sizes ! |

In order to get FDISK to set a size instead of cylinder/sector limit you must preceede the numbers by a plus symbol and then end with a capaital M to tell it 100 megs. Otherwise, it assumes cylinders/sectors and will give you that error message.
I know, it seems strange, but that's they way FDISK works in Linux. It was designed that way to allow you use the entire disk, unlike anyother OS. Say you have a new drive that states it's unformated capacity is 62.6 gb, when formated, it will only show 60 gb in dos/windows, where as with linux, you can use all 62.6 gb.[/code]

ok yes i know u have to do +100m, for example,
the problem is i set the hard as follows
100meg for boot disk
384meg for swap and the rest to /
277444 sectors, and 1 head
is what /ev/hdc is
also plkease rem,eber this is a vmware disk
maybe thats the poblem ? |
