Hi,

in KDE 3, how can I set individual icons for files? I have some html
files, and they have standard html icon (of course), but I'd like to use
my own icons for these few files only, and the standard html icon for all
other html files on the system. The problem seems to be that KDE has
decided that "this is a html files and should allways be iconed as such".

regards,
Herodot

Here's how:

since file are handled by their mimetype all you need to do is change the icon for html's mimetype.

    Open konqueror.
    Select setting | configure Konqueror
Select File Associations from the left icon bar
From the mimetype tree select text | html
In the dialog which appears on the right (under the General tab) press the big button with the icon on it
    select the icon you want
    OK everything, and enjoy :-)

You can also right click an html file and select Edit File Type to get the mimetype's dialog.

Sounds like you just want to change the icon on a few of the files, not for the html mimetype itself.

In Konquorer, right click on the file in question, and hit properties.

You can change the icon displayed there.. its only per-file.

Note: you do need write access in the directory for this to work.

Oh, you're right, sorry I missed the part about the need to change icons on specific files

Hi,

I hadn't thought about writing permissions, but that didn't help either. No matter what I do, I can't change any file icons (from properties). I can change folder icons.

Could this have something to do with the set of icons I chosen i preferences? Or is it just the way KDE works?

It's not a big deal, but...

I thinks it the way KDE works, the closest I could get was to create a Link to Location and point that at the file, you can then change the icon on that. Not a very elegant solution though.

Actually, that's the way Windows works... :D
