Help please.
I was editing /etc/passwd for a user (not root) to add /bin/bash as shell
Logged out and logged back in, now can not su to root, get
gives
Code: | id: root: No such user |
however;
produces
Code: | uid=0(Root) gid=0(root) groups==0(root) |
/etc/passwd has Root.... should it be root instead?
Tried logging in under both root and single user mode, neither work.
Can I recover from this or do I have to reinstall? |

Follow these instructions to "login" into your Gentoo. After that fix /etc/passwd. Here is mine and it works:
Code: | root:x:0:0::/root:/bin/bash |
as you can see it's root not Root.
good luck _________________ --kirill |

Can you log in as Root instead of root? _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

Finally got time off work to try out your suggestion and it worked. Saved me from having to reinstall from scratch.
Root would not login and I was almost certain that Root was not supposed to be capitalized. |
