|
im puzzled with setting up framebuffer in gentoo...
i can only get REALLY lousy res's with framebuffer like (134x60)or something. when i know i can pull off 1024x768 in framebuffer with suse (does this by default)
i have a Nvidia GF4MX460 + Athlon kernel 2.4.18-xfs
i realise that i have to use vesafb which is fine with me and my kernel is compiled with this setup
Code Maturity Level Options -->
* Prompt for development and/or incomplete code/drivers
Console Drivers -->
* Video Mode Selection Support
Frame-buffer support -->
* Support for frame buffer devices
* VESA VGA graphics console
Advanced low level driver options -->
* 16bpp packed pixels support
pretty much all the bpp fonts are installed
and my grub.lst looks like this
default 0
timeout 5
splashimage=(hd0,1)/boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz
title=Gentoo
root (hd0,1)
kernel /boot/bzImage root=/dev/hdb1 vga=317
title=WindowsXP
root (hd0,0)
chainloader +1
title=withoutfbbackup
root (hd0,1)
kernel /boot/bzImage.old root=/dev/hdb1
and i've even tried all the various setting in the vesafb.documentation all the way down to 101 god help me
the lower res fb start up that i can do has no penguin and looks like hell
(134x65) or something reaaally low like that
this is driving my NUTS! can someone please shed some light on me! |
