Ive been having difficulty getting my printer to work.
I have parport_pc loaded in my modules.autoload
The port is set to ecp and 378H irq7 dma3
But no /dev/lp0 appears.
the printer is a HP deskjet 610c works on other linux box and this box under win xp.

Hello.

Had the same problem until somebody told me to take a look into /dev/printers... and there it was.. /dev/printers/0

I just did a 'MAKEDEV lp', which I don't think I'm supposed to do using the new devfs, but someone told me to do it, and sure enough, I had a working lp0! I hope it works for others, but I seem to be lucky with gentoo. Hell, I managed to install it using the CD over PPPoE.

That doesn't work either

bash-2.05a# MAKEDEV lp
mv: cannot move `lp0-' to `lp0': Operation not permitted
mv: cannot move `lp1-' to `lp1': Operation not permitted
mv: cannot move `lp2-' to `lp2': Operation not permitted
