Hello all, Im new to the forums. Heres my problem, I cant emerge Xfree because it gets stuck on package 5 of 7, media-libs/fontconfig-2.2.1. I tried to emerge that package seperately but i get this error:
------------------------------------------
Calculating dependencies
!!! Problem in media-libs/fontconfig-2.2.1 dependencies.
!!! "Specific key requires an operator (media-libs/fontconfig-2.2.1) (try adding an '=')"
-------------------------------------------
Does anyone know what it is having a problem with, and where I add the '=' its recommending.
As far as I know, there are no other problems with the system, I get no errors during boot up, its a fresh install on Gentoo 2004 from 2-24-2004 I believe, 2.6.3 kernel. |

if you use the full package category and the package name and the version number, then you need to add an = infront of the command: Code: | emerge =media-libs/fontconfig-2.2.1 | to use it without the = you don't need to add the version number: Code: | emerge media-libs/fontconfig |
cheers

ok that explains why it wasnt working seperately,
but the package still runs in an endless loop when trying to compile, i havent had any problems with compiling any of the rest of my system. the emerge log is very specific, the last entry just says "Compiling/Merging (the package) " before it says terminated where i killed it. Is there any better way to find out where it is having a problem in the compile process? |

emerge --debug package?
if that is the correct command, i did it, but where is it sending the info, to a log file or something? emerge.log looks the same as before. |

wow, i feel stupid. For some reason, my system clock went awry, and the package wouldnt emerge because the time was bad, and the time stamp was in the future. |
