/proc dir has 250 megs in it. is this normal?

250megs of my hd space is being used by the proc dir. Also after the base compile and install with no X or KDE I have 700megs used. is this normal? Is it all just source?

Don't worry about it. /proc is a virtual filesystem. I'm betting /proc/kcore is responsible for most of that, as it's an exposure of all of your system's RAM. It's not actually taking up any disk space at all.
