Rebooting/Shutting Down from gnome

I use gnome 2.0 and gdm is my desktop manager. Whenever I select shut down or reboot from gnome, all it does is logout and go back to gdm. I then have to select reboot again from GDM. How can I fix it so that I can reboot directly from gnome?

Same here for me.

I tried several things (like suid the shutdown program & placing a link to it in /usr/bin). I could type shutdown from a commandline, and that worked (not recommended though....).

Still the menu option did not work. I gave up on that for the time being...

But be warned that my ~/.ICEauthority and/or .Xauthority have gotten corrupted
a few times and i think it may be as a result of using the above.

The better way to fix it is to use consolehelper to let the normal user shutdown
(preconfigured on most distos but i'm not sure about gentoo) - but in that
case this bug applies: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=84054
