I always got this error after finishing hte install and trying to run "emerge rsync" on startup
Code: |
rsync:getaddrinfo:rsync.gentoo.org 873: Temporary failure in name resolution
rsync error: error in Socket IO(code 10) at clientserver.c97 |
I actually proceeded to install twice more and failed to rid myself of this
I thought my Network card was the problem but I compiled it (* not M) and thought it would work
DHCP setup behind a router
EDIT: now it doesn't even work the first time...even after I have verified it with and |

It sounds like a misconfigured name resolver to me. Are you able to ping hosts by name? Are you sure /etc/resolv.conf is set up correctly? Note that you can retrieve a portage snapshot from http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo/snapshots/ if rsync just doesn't work for you, and figure it out later. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |

THe problem is this happens from a fresh install and the network card finds the router etc. |

It might be a problem with a firewall in the router. I couldn't get rsync to work at first when I went away to college because of the firewall. It gave me a similar error--(tech support said it had rsync blocked and it should say something like that) _________________ What boots up must come down. |

I tried a direct conenction to the net and still get the error
basically what I did was set the 3com 3c59x to "<M>" and once as "built-in"
Upon restart I keep getting the same error.....

Can you ping IP addresses? Try 66.250.107.251 (forums.gentoo.org). Can you do anything over the internet? _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

I am getting this same error, and my network card supposedly is working, however when I try to run the dhcpd command, i get an error saying dhcpd command not found. I'm also behind a router, but that hasn't affected anything before now. I've tried a direct connection to the net, and still same error. I'm in the middle of the installation, so I don't know what commands would work. I tried to ssh into a computer (using the name address, not IP), and that didn't work. I edited my resolv.conf file, and it still doesn't work...any ideas?

dhcpd is the DHCP server, are you sure you don't want dhcpcd? _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |
