I am on a Fujistsu Powerbook, and withthe crusoe processor I wnated a complete compiled version of Linux so I opted for Gentoo.

The CD fails to load and hangs at the following line.

ide0: BM-DMA at 0x1400-0x1407, BIOS settings: hda:DMA, hdb:pio

I was forced to load the boot kernel with the "linux ide0=ata66 ide1=ata66 idebus=66" as a workaround for an earlier error.

I have RedHat 7.3 running on it now, (it required the same ide0=66 etc workaround), But I would rather go with gentoo. Can anyone advise me.

Cheers

Cian

What is the name of the file you downloaded to create the CD?

If you have RedHat running, and you can spare a partition to install Gentoo alongside it, you could use the procedure described in the alternate install guide for installing from a running Linux. Personally, I think it's the easiest type of install to do, because your machine is useful during the installation process.

Alas I have no more space available. I can see about spqueezing a bit out, and playing with the partitions, but I would prefer to use the boot cd. I will look at it though. Thanks for the note.
