Well that depends on your needs. I don't have or need a boot disk, I use grub. I have grub loaded into my MBR on my hard disk.
If that doesn't answer your question feel free to repost with more information.

Well. Bootdisk isn't for the regular booting process, it's a safe measure. So my question again. Do we still need to keep a bootdisk just in case? _________________ bluesky

Grub and a bootdisk are not an either/or proposition. You can put grub on a boot floppy. If this is your only machine and you cannot access the internet or another machine if something goes wrong, you can make a grub (or someother) boot floppy for safety sake. However, the likelihood of the floppy going bad is probably higher than that of the hard drive screwing up.

Yeah... there is a "howto" in the DT&T on this. However, having a boot floppy around is sometimes handy since it lets you get to your system more directly than a boot CD (no chroot, etc.)

Interesting. I know that install CD can be used to do install, upgrade and rescue disk. But, I don't know how to boot my system from an install CD. Would you explain how? _________________ bluesky

This FAQ topic should cover that (with included link to instructions). _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

Thanks. However, it will take some processes and I will need to do a chroot.
But I agree that the boot CD is really useful. But, in case if the kernel were corrupted( because of bad recompiling, for example ), can I still chroot into the system to replace with a new kenel? _________________ bluesky
