Just to let you know (in case you don't) XFS is supported in the Gentoo sources kernel. You might be interested in the challenges that XFS introduces with ACL's (and then ghostscript due to ACL problems) and also problems with a preemptive kernel. If you do not want ACL's or a preemptive kernel you should be just fine with the standard gentoo sources for your kernel and you can then use XFS. I have already done this many times, I have since changed from XFS to flee from the preemptive kernel conflict, ACLs are no big deal to me on my personal machine.
